Twenty One

You’re dressed in tropical sun
same hands as mine, same face
I’ve been awake too long
It’s like I’ve been stuck in place
I don’t know now
Do you know now? Do you know now?
That I’ve been so many places that you don’t know now. You don’t know now
But when you hold him do you hold me?
Do you watch him get older?
Life feels so much like a day dream,
just a moment then it’s over
But we could just fly, right?
I’m feeling sick though
It doesn’t feel right
and I should have said so
now you hold him in the moment
and it’s so hard now to start over
Your wallet is your son, your wife in credit cards
if your body fails this once
well your mind is too far gone
teeth like yellow sunlight
cigarette light, is it red light?
begins to feel like
you let the city life go
it’s a movie, could of fooled me
You could have called me once
haven’t called me in a day, like,
it begins to feel like
When you hold him you still hold me
Do you watch me get older?
Life feels so much like a day dream,
just a moment then it’s over
But we could just fly, right?
I’m feeling sick though
It doesn’t feel right
and I should have said so
now you hold him in the moment
and it’s so hard now to start over
two kids in the back of a car with the windows rolled down
dry heat in the back of a car with a glimpse into rage in the southern states
you grew your hair out
but you're the same mistakes you’ve always made
and I make the same mistakes I always make
