Jae Amends

Jae Amends is the solo project of Toronto-based songwriter and producer Doug Haynes. While spending the past 7 years touring North America and Europe as the singer and guitarist of the Toronto Alt-pop band HIGHS (ex-Indica Records), Haynes began writing deeply personal songs that chronicled his evolving relationship with his father, re-examining and processing the past, and navigating the notion of unconditional love. With songs like “Twenty One”, “Waves”, and “Eternity” essentially acting as letters to his father, the writing process was as much about catharsis as it was about artistic expression, with the underlying goal of creating something intentional, authentic, and honest. Ultimately, the record ends with an ode to his mother, framed by the sounds of joy from his childhood. These songs would become Jae Amends’ debut solo record, “ii, Eternity”, released September 9, 2022.

The record is mixed by Juno award-winning engineer James Bunton (Donovan Woods, Heaps), mastered by Heather Kirby (Le Ren), and has additional production by Cayne Mackenzie (We Are the City, Big Kill, Said the Whale) and Paul Vroom (HIGHS, Little Kid, Romes). Building on his musical roots in singer-songwriter, alt-pop, and punk, and drawing on influences from Bon Iver to Frank Ocean, Dijon to Toro y Moi, this record doesn’t quite have a home in any specific genre. Rather, it pieces together highlights from each in an attempt to forge something unique, while paying homage to the clear influences that led Haynes to this point
